  COVER STORY
A Bill of Goods
Page 29
When a faction of Illinois state
legislators pushed their criminal
justice reform bill through the
General Assembly in January,
they had little concern for how to
address the grave crime issues in
the City. Shootings and murders
have grown at an unprecedented
rate and cut a path of destruction,
including taking the lives of many
children in 2020. Chicago Lodge
7 joined forces with other law en-
forcement organizations and oth-
er labor unions to battle the bill
and eliminate some of its most
egregious attempts to make life
more difficult for the police. This
special report details how that fight was waged and what it means for members.
Plus: In his President’s Report, John Catanzara asserts how much harder the bill will make it for members to effectively police .................................................................................................................... Page 5
