It’s time to check your duty weapon
Chicago Lodge 7 Firearms Safety Days May 25-26
FOP Hall
1412 W. Washington
Chicago Lodge 7 is once again hosting Firearms Safety Days May 25-26 at the FOP Hall for members to get their firearms in- spected, cleaned and if necessary, repaired.
As the event title suggests, the event will feature retailers, manufacturers and supporting businesses that will provide re- sources and educate members about all firearm safety–relat- ed matters, including better management and storage of their on-duty and off-duty weapons.
“God forbid you ever have to use deadly force, you got to make sure it’s in working order,” explained Mike Mette, the Lodge 7 first vice president and event coordinator. “There’s that saying, ‘The two loudest sounds in firearms are a click when you want it to go bang and a bang when you want it to go click.’”
Mette urges members to show up to the Firearms Safety Days, even if just for 15 to 20 minutes, especially since some districts don’t do weekly weapons inspections anymore.
“It should be a no-brainer,” Mette remarked. “It’s your lifeline there, and not just yours. It’s your partner’s and other officers’. I’ve seen officers’ guns come in that I wouldn’t keep in my night- stand.”
Just under 300 members participated in the event in Septem- ber 2020, and more than 1,000 weapons were checked over the course of the two-day event. Many of the same vendors, includ- ing Sig Sauer, Kiesler Police Supply, Shield U, Rock River Arms, Acme Sports and Ray O’Herron Co., will again be present at this year’s Firearms Safety Days.
