get the blood pumping, get some exercise and have a few cold beverages before getting back to the job the next morning.
As Katz said, “It gets us out of the house for a few hours. Ev- erybody gets it. We’re competitive, but we just have fun.”
Certainly the passion and the love of the game form the foun- dation of the team’s storied longevity. And the opportunity to represent the FOP and Chicago police sisters and brothers is
another motivating factor.
But there is also an almost intangible sense that comes with
being part of this team. It’s that influence that makes them want to keep on playing.
“My goal was to play until I was 40. Then, once I hit 40, it was to play until I was 50,” Aguilar declared. “To be perfectly honest, I never thought I would make it to 50. Now, I’m 60, and I will be playing until I’m 80 if I can. It’s almost like meditation, kind of a Zen thing. There’s nothing else that can compare to playing hockey.”
