President’s Letter
Dear fellow SDP members,
The holiday season is fast approaching and it is by far my favorite time of year. I know it is for many of you and your brushes are busy painting those special one-of-a-kind treasures for the special people
in your life. It is a time of giving and receiving and thinking of others, of spending time with family and friends and that includes our SDP friends who have become like family to many of us.
As we look back over 2018, we’ve seen some changes and faced many challenges. The contract with our management company, AFCI, ended at the end of 2017 and we are functioning on our
own again. Our talented and hardworking staff, Board of Directors and committees all work tirelessly to make SDP the best that it can be. Museum pieces acquired from the National Museum of Decorative Painting are being unpacked weekly and will be incorporated into our own International Museum of the Society of Decorative Painters located at our headquarters in Wichita, Kansas. Plans for our 2019 conference, “Party in the Heartland” next May are well under way with many exciting classes and special events. The Conference Special will be available soon and registration will open in early December. We are looking forward to seeing you in Wichita!
Stay connected with your painting friends and SDP! Check us out on social media; on Facebook at SDP: An Artful Connection, a group for SDP members only; or on our public page, Society of Decorative Painters.
This is also the time of year when we renew our membership for 2019. Thank you to all the early birds who renewed early and received three free e-packets! Perhaps you’d like to give the gift of a membership to a painting friend. What a wonderful way to introduce them to painting and to SDP! Remember to renew before December 31st to guarantee you’ll receive the first issue of The Decorative Painter in February.
It has been an exciting year of change in 2018 and we are looking forward to painting and growing with you for an even better year
in 2019.
On behalf of the SDP Board of Directors and staff, I wish you a joyful holiday season and a very Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Linda Sharp cda
SDP President, 2018-19
