STEP-BY-STEP
Background is lightened with multiple washes over the White Peach background. These are done with Warm White overall, then Honey Brown here and there. The dark vertical shading is done with a brush-mix of Soft Black plus Dark Chocolate.
Trace on the detail of skates and laces.
Top Ice Skate has a dark opening on the inside of the skate. This is done with a #4 filbert brush and Soft Black. The shading on the left side or back of the skate is done with a 3⁄4" flat brush and Deep Midnight Blue. The right or front of the skate is shaded with Soft Black. The bottom of the skate is shaded with a brush-mix of Soft Black and Dark Chocolate.
Bottom Ice Skate is initially shaded to the top and left with Deep Midnight Blue. The shading on the toe is done with Soft Black, and then the blue shading is darkened with Soft Black. Also, a cast shadow on the top blade is done with transparent Soft Black.
Stitching detail on the skates is done with a #4 flat brush and Soft Black. If necessary, soften the stitching by glazing over here and there with a brush-mix of Slate Grey plus Warm White.
Hooks and Eyelets are done with either a liner or #2 flat brush. The top of the skate has an empty eyelet which is filled
in with Soft Black. The next four closures are hooks which are outlined with a small outward circle of stitches using Soft Black. The lower closures are eyelets which have laces going into them, and they are also outlined with Soft Black.
Heel and Sole of both skates get a soft highlight of Slate Grey.
Blades are shaded with Dark Chocolate and then darkened with Soft Black. Add tints throughout the blades with Deep Midnight Blue or Deep Midnight Blue plus Slate Grey or Warm White. Sharp highlights are added to the top of the blades with the chisel edge of a flat brush and Warm White.
