  STEP-BY-STEP
  LET’S PAINT
The scrollwork will be painted last, since it requires overnight drying time.
LEAVES
Looking at the picture of the finished piece on page 78, note that some leaves are lighter than others depending on where they lie. For instance, the leaves on the Lilac half of the surface are lighter in color than the heart-shaped morning glory leaves.
The basic instructions for all leaves are as follows. Ad- ditional instructions are included in each specific flower’s section. Use the no. 2 filbert for the small leaves and nos. 4 or 6 filberts for the larger leaves.
STEP 1: Basecoat all leaves with Pineapple.
STEP 2: Apply Avocado to the medium value areas of the leaves.
STEP 3: Shade the leaves with Hauser Dark Green and highlight with White Wash.
STEP 4: Using a no. 10/0 liner, apply veins to the leaves in Hauser Dark Green or Lamp Black based on your prefer- ence. Highlight randomly with White Wash.
STEP 5: Continuing with the no. 10/0 liner, stroke in the connecting stems with Hauser Dark Green or Lamp Black based on your preference.
ROSES
FLOWERS
STEP 1: Basecoat the center of the roses and the petals with a light coat of French Mauve using the 1⁄4" angle shad- er. Do not basecoat over the outer petal pattern lines. STEPS 2, 3 & 4: Continuing with the same brush, tip into White Wash and work the paint lightly into the bris- tles by gently pressing the brush on the palette. Place the
