LET’S PAINT
BACKGROUND
Prep the brick by removing any loose particles using an old scrub brush or stiff paint brush.
Tip: Some bricks are coarser and some are smoother. A smoother brick works better for this design. The brick is a very forgiving surface, mainly due to its texture.
Base the entire brick with the Black Gesso. This is also the background color. Once dry, transfer the line drawing to the brick. The easiest way I have found to do this is to copy the pattern, and place on a lightbox but reverse it. Use a white chalk or charcoal pencil to trace the back side of the line drawing.
Once done, flip the line drawing back over and place it over your brick. Use a stylus to trace over the pattern, transferring the white onto the black brick. Only transfer the basic lines at first, you can transfer the facial features, etc. later using regular transfer paper.
Once you have your basic design transferred onto the brick, use the flourish stencil, the stencil brush, and Lavender to add detail to the background outside the character’s shapes. Using the 1/2" angular shader, shade around the shapes with Dioxazine Purple.
