I was inspired to paint this guy after seeing another ani- mal done by a fellow artist, Pat Ott. I loved the idea of wear- ing a giraffe in the kitchen. It certainly makes a statement when preparing meals of unknown ingredients!
The apron is purchased from restaurantdiscount warehouse.com. It is black with three pockets along the bottom. I did not launder it before painting. I started by tracing on my pattern with white graphite, using all the lines provided.
PREPARATION
I place all my paints on the palette and mix each one with DecoArt Fabric Painting Medium, 2 parts paint to one part medium. As I paint, I brush-mix colors as needed to achieve different shades. I also leave some of the apron showing, especially along the graphite lines, to help create the dark shade. If you overdo one color, just come back to some Lamp (Ebony) Black paint and reestablish some shading.
Painting on fabric is forgiving because it stays wet lon- ger and you can blend colors easily. But there will be times when you must leave it dry to achieve a more opaque look. You may decide how heavy the coverage should be.
