I am the daughter of a proud Marine. My dad was so honored to be a Marine and taught me patriotism through his example. When he unexpectedly left this world in 2008, I was presented a flag “in honor of his service from a grateful nation.” I am truly Daddy’s girl through and through, so his passion for God and country was one of his greatest lessons. Losing him was incomprehensible for me, but somehow his lessons were amplified and became even more important.
Currently I am an auntie to two nephews and a niece serving in the Navy and Air Force. My nephew in the Air Force deployed to Iraq in January. While I am worried for his physical safety and emotional well-being, I am so incredibly proud of his service and sacrifice. As you plan your Indepen- dence Day celebrations, paint seasonal pieces like this one, or enjoy other freedoms we too easily take for granted, re- member our service men and women who so willingly fight for those gifts. The Annie doll is in honor of my Grandma Gordon and the beautiful Annies she created and I still enjoy! Sadie the dog is inspired by our first dog as a married couple. Use your story to inspire your art and tell your unique tale!
