President’s Letter
It is hard to believe we have reached the end of 2021 and getting ready to head into 2022, SDP’s 50th year. We are going to celebrate all year long in big and small ways, while always remembering our Love for Decorative Painting.
I hope that all of you have taken a few minutes to review the classes for the January Fredericksburg Retreat and have found some that you just can’t live without. Along with the classes
from our great teachers, there will be fun evening activities that you will receive information about when you register. There will be a contest and an Art Challenge. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to see your painting friends and enjoy a relaxing week in wonderful Fredericksburg, TX.
We started our monthly UFO Day a year ago, each month on the third Monday of the month you can join us. You can finish or work on any project you want, see what others are working on, have some social time, reconnect with old friends and make new friends. People join in from across the country. Some stay all day and some for just a short time, whatever your schedule will allow. Watch for the zoom link that is posted on FB in SDP: an Artful Connection. We also try to send an email for those who do not do or have time for Facebook.
The buzz and excitement for the 50th Anniversary Celebration in Las Vegas is starting to build and will only increase as more details are released. Classes have been submitted and the selection committee has reviewed and made decisions. The event timeline is now in the process of being compiled and scheduled so details can be released to you and registration can open by mid-February.
In January, we will kick off our Monthly Anniversary Ornament e-Packets. A new anniversary themed ornament e-packet will be featured each month in 2022 from some of your favorite artists. There will be 12 packets with 2 designs each and all designs on the same ornament surface. You will want to get all 12 and have a tree full for Christmas 2022.
Membership is an important part of our organization, as you know, and is
often talked about. There are many member benefits and just to mention a
few; discounts from SDP participating business members, Decorative Painters Academy classes at a member rate, The Decorative Painter magazine four times
a year with approximately 10 projects in each issue (that is 40 projects for $60, averaging $1.50 per pattern), credentials to join an affiliated chapter (there is a new virtual chapter forming in case you don’t have a Chapter meeting in person close to you), not to mention the friendships that are made and cherished over the years. So, as we have asked many times, do you know of someone who would enjoy a membership to share your painting journey with you? One person can make a difference, so let’s all be the difference and invite that one person to join or give a gift membership.
