Interview process
Once you have looked through all candidates resumes and narrowed down who you would like to have in for an interview, reach out to these candidates by email or phone to schedule a face-to-face interview. Depending on the position(s) you would like to fill, if your focus is looking to fill non-management roles, then consider conducting a group interview with you and your ASM(s), together, so that you can see how the candidates are in a group setting and who stands out. Having an ASM with you will also permit for the two of you to work together to see which candidates will easily integrate into your team.
  • When scheduling a group interview, look to have a minimum
of 3 candidates to a maximum of 6 candidates to ensure that you will have enough time to ask 2-3 questions in all applicable categories and all candidates have an opportunity to share their answers. Look to incorporate at least one role playing question into your interview to see how your candidates work in a team. For a breakdown of interview questions you can ask, please refer to the GUIDE – INTERVIEW GUIDE ART on the RCL Forum.
• For individual interviews, which is strongly recommended when looking to fill a management role, ask the same questions to multiple candidates that are pertinent to the role they are interviewing for. This will enable you to see what experience each candidate has and how well they can answer these particular questions. Ask yourself, is this an answer based off
of real experience or an answer that lacks the right amount of depth needed to excel in this position.
• Avoid simple yes/no and leading questions. Look to ask questions that will have your candidates use concrete examples and elaborate their responses.
• Have all candidates complete the “Sell me an Outfit” portion of the interview – Refer to the “Sell me an Outfit” form and the Assessing and Selecting Candidates section of ART.
• In the “Sell me an Outfit” portion of the interview, look for:
1. Enthusiasm about the product
2. Awareness of the salesfloor and their surrounding
3. Ability to put outfits together – fashion knowledge
