shorter side...but whose identity remains to be discovered. And there is more to come for Disney+’s ever-increasing membership. Marvel fans are beside themselves waiting for a host of limited series (generally six episodes), featuring some of their favorite superheroes (and villains). The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, with Emily Van Camp as Sharon Carter and Daniel Brühl as Helmut Zemo, picks up where Avengers: Endgame left off, with Falcon as the new Captain America. Another Endgame sequel is Hawkeye, starring Jeremy Renner, in which Clint Barton is training his daughter Kate (as yet
uncast) to replace him in his Avengers role.
The premise for WandaVision, with Elizabeth Olsen and
Paul Bettany, is for now a mystery, as Vision was killed in Scarlet Witch’s quest to destroy the Mind Stone. There is speculation that the series is a prequel, while other theories state that the story will be played out in Wanda’s imagination. Either possibility is intriguing, and should be met with enthusiasm by fans of the super-couple.
Though Loki died in Endgame, he too has a second chance on Disney+, thanks to a self-titled series. He also managed to gain a second life via all of the time traveling going on in Endgame, managing to procure the Space Stone and
departing for...well, we really don’t know. But we are sure to find out when Loki premieres in early 2021! Tom Hiddleston is set to reprise his role and Owen Wilson (Meet the Parents, Cars) has also signed on in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
The animated What If...? reunites a number of Marvel friends and foes in a speculative series, asking, “What would have happened if...” (fill in the blank with any number of scenarios). What if Peggy Carter had been given the Super Soldier serum? What if Mjolnir belonged to Loki instead of his nobler older brother? Marvel fans will enjoy reconnecting with the voices and animated representations of the original Avengers, as well as Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Ant- Man (Paul Rudd), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), as well as Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), Arnim Zola (Toby Jones) and Thanos (Josh Brolin). Other Marvel series will include Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Knight.
With a selection as vast as what can be found on Disney+, there is clearly something for film fans of all ages. And there is also something for fans of all genres: sports, music, documentaries, history—it’s all there. Disney+ is undoubtedly a source of entertainment that will take Disney fans well into the future...and to infinity and beyond!
