I could think of no better place to continue my quest than at the attraction themed around the very concept of deep space exploration, Mission: SPACE. Unfortunately, throughout my adventure on the Orange Team, my head was a bit too foggy to focus on the starfield in front of me. However, as I made my way out of the building, I noticed that the ceiling and walls of the gift shop were adorned with Moons and stars and other space objects. In fact, right above me, I saw the famous Mickey Nebula, which I recalled discovering many years ago. Unfortunately, as thoroughly as I looked, I still couldn’t find a sign of the Big Dipper itself.
I next ventured over to Space Mountain, though once again my actual journey left me too dizzy to pay attention to any stars that might have been around. However, when I first entered the building to make my way toward the launching area, I did see a number of viewports featuring several space objects, including one called Ariel! Still no Big Dipper, but Ariel made
me think of Sebastian the crab over at Journey of the Little Mermaid in Fantasyland. Since this attraction was also known as “Under the Sea,” I had a glimmer of hope that I might discover some ocean-going sailors who understood the importance of constellations and nighttime navigation. Unfortunately, the only thing I discovered was an underwater world filled with dancing starfish and other sea creatures; mesmerizing to look at it
but clearly not what I was seeking. However, something made me think I was getting very close, so I wandered over to the nearby tavern to see if I could find another clue.
After stopping at Gaston’s Tavern for some LeFou’s Brew, I decided to take a walk over to the Bonjour Village Gift shop. This delightful shop was indeed a treasure trove of ancient artifacts and unique items. I hoped to find something along the lines of a star atlas or navigational sextant, but even though I searched high and low, I was unable to find one. I was about to give up hope when suddenly I looked up on the wall and I uttered an audible “Aha!” For there it was, a beautiful tapestry featuring the unmistakable pattern of Ursa Major. I smiled in satisfaction as I realized
I had discovered the famed Big Dipper at Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, it was a long time before sundown, and this image of the constellation wasn’t going to aid me in navigating my way back to the Yacht Club, so instead I wandered back to Gaston’s Tavern to seek out a new adventure. And besides, I thought it would be fun to take part in a friendly game of darts as played by the local residents, though the shop’s proprietor seemed to have a great advantage over everybody else for some reason...
