I view HistoryofInformation.com, which has been created from both physical and digital sources, as a kind of research laboratory for the history of the digital and physical approaches to information and media. Some of the themes focus on digital information, some on the development of broadcast media, some on physical information such as book history; some are oth- erwise characterized. You will find that the data is searchable by a virtually unlimited number of parameters. Creating this database is one thing; draw- ing conclusions from it is another. As much as I have immersed myself on these topics for the past twenty years, and I have designed the database to be accessible from almost any point of view, the documentation that I have accumulated and studied has caused me to reduce, rather than increase, the number of generalizations that I draw from this resource.
