The name Sleepy Bee Blossom was born of a discovery last year.
“I had never seen this before,” she said. “Bumblebees in the middle of the day will crawl into the petals and take naps. I might see three bees in one, so I would pick a different one.”
This year, Katie has already started seeds indoors and plans to focus more on annuals than perennials. She is intrigued by the concept of succession gardening, which just means planting something new after a plant is finished. Her inventory will include sunflowers, zinnias and cosmos.
“My goal is not so much about money as it is to bring something of value to the community,” she said.
Mike Roberts grew up in Oconee County and was always active in FFA activities. He remembers squirrel hunting on the land where their home now sits. There were cows nearby.
Nicole was reared in nearby Dacula, where farming was something that was done elsewhere.
Mike is a hydraulic technician for Altec, which keeps him busy servicing the bucket trucks of utility companies all over Northeast Georgia. Nicole is an elementary teacher. They are raising two girls.
