In March of 2010, long time LCD board member Darrell Poindexter resigned to become the new Superintendent of the District, assuming his new duties in April.
His place on the board was taken by Mike McCabe.
One of the most noticeable projects undertaken by LCD, the replacement of the US 50 floodgate, began in April, with Maxwell Construction Company the successful bidder, at a cost of almost $1.5 million.
Replacement of the cumbersome old gate would allow for vastly faster and easier placement should it ever become necessary.
Although it has been put into place occasionally in practice sessions, the gate has been closed only once for floodwater, in 1945.
The old gate required numerous steel beams to be hoisted into slots in the floodwall, and then the area had to be filled in with sandbags. It took an entire team of workers and a huge crane many long hours to complete the installation, with serious possibilities for complications and serious problems during an emergency situation.
With the new rolling gate in place, the whole process can be done in just a couple of hours.
Supplied with ample funding in the foreseeable future, the Lawrenceburg Conservancy District plans to continue upgrading and maintaining its installations to be certain there is never another 1937 flood in Lawrenceburg.

Grass covers the majority of the levee, while riprap 6”-20” thick consisting of various sized rocks protects the remainder from debris and erosion. Full and part-time employees, backed by a seven member Board of Directors, use the equipment shown to maintain and protect the Lawrenceburg levee.
