Man Ray: Marchesa Casati 1922
Casati - inheriting a vast fortune in 1900, when she was thirteen - made herself indelibly immortal by supporting, patronising and commissioning art - mainly portraits of herself, by such artists, fashion designers and photographers as Adolphe de Mayer, Paul Poiret, Giovanni Boldini, Romaine de Tertoff (Erte), Augustus John, Romaine Brooks, and Man Ray who used a double exposure to emphasise the ‘magic’ of her personality
and her great beauty.
