 Alphonse Bertillon: Bertillonage Photo-Identification Biometric System1879
Bertillon was the first to apply biometrics (anthropometry) in criminology. He developed Bertillonage - a complex system of body measurements, supplemented with photographic evidence (and by 1912 fingerprints) to identify police suspects and convicted criminals. Arthur Conan Doyle twice mentions Bertillon in his Sherlock Holmes stories.
