James Wallace Black: Boston, as the Eagle and the Wild Goose See It. 1860
A year or so after Nadar’s earliest balloon pictures over Paris (now lost), James Wallace Black - one of a new breed of photo-journalists (he photographed Walt Whitman in 1860 on the publication of Leaves of Grass - takes the first American aerial photograph from a balloon over Boston, and gives it a suitably poetic title: Boston, as the Eagle and the Wild Goose See It.
