Aubrey Vincent Beardsley: Cave of Spleen from Rape of the Lock 1896
Beardsley was still a developing and aspirational artist when he died, age 25, in 1898. His detailed illustrations for Pope’s Rape of the Lock revealed just how exploratory he still could be.
