Grandville becomes the first of the modern fantasists to project (extrapolate) from his contemporary period, and to imagine the technological glories to come - the electric light, improved astro- telescopes, - even space travel (lower left)... Grandville treads in the paths of romantic supernaturalists like Henry Fuseli and William Blake, and in turn his work influenced the Victorian ‘Fairy Painters' like Doyle and Dadd.
