Sculpting a Vision
With no formal training in design, Queens-based Ellen
Pong transforms everyday objects—be it furniture,
lighting, or art—into whimsical creations that explore
the relationship between materiality and spontaneity.
By stacking flat forms into three-dimensional voids,
Pong constructs scaffolds of ceramic, glass, and metal.
Casting pieces that maintain a subtle harmony, her
most recent work preserves the organic marks left by the
casting process. These traces, along with her inventions,
speak to a delicate balance between structure and chaos,
revealing an intimate dialogue between the two.

CULTURE
All Caught Up
Directed by Halina Reijn, of Bodies Bodies Bodies fame, A24’s
Babygirl stars Nicole Kidman as Romy, a successful CEO stuck
in a 25-year marriage devoid of pleasure. Set in New York City,
Romy’s life dramatically changes when she begins an intense
affair with an intern named Samuel (Harris Dickinson). While
at first glance the film appears to follow in the footsteps of
erotic thrillers like 9 1/2 Weeks and Basic Instinct, Reijn turns
the genre on its head, with an enticing examination of power
constructs through a female lens, inviting the audience to
uncover the complexities of desire, love, and fulfillment.
Babygirl plays at select theatres starting Dec. 25, 2024.
