The Tudor Pelagos goes swimming with whales in a new documentary
by JEREMY FREED
AS A WORLD CHAMPION freediver, Morgan Bourc’his has ventured to places that few humans will ever see. After years of record-setting dives in some of the world’s most beautiful locales, however, there was one experience that remained on his bucket list: getting up close with some of the largest mammals on earth. In the upcoming documentary, The Quest for Nature, Bourc’his chronicles diving with whales and orcas in the frigid waters off the Norwegian coast while drawing attention to the impact human activity is having upon them.
“My first time diving with humpback whales, there were eight of them right in front of me, patrolling up and down. Their proportions are astonishing,” says Bourc’his. During the course of filming, he swam alongside pods of orcas as they hunted schools of herring and families of humpback whales.
On his wrist for these dives was the Tudor Pelagos, a watch designed to withstand the extreme conditions of underwater exploration. It’s rated water-resistant to 500 metres, with an in-house movement certified by Switzerland’s COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) for superlative accuracy. With a steel and titanium case, a bright, luminous dial, and a tita- nium bracelet extension system devel- oped and patented by Tudor to easily fit over a wetsuit cuff, the Pelagos proved its worth over countless dives in the frigid Norwegian Sea. “I couldn’t have imagined a better companion
for this adventure than the Pelagos,” Bourc’his says.
