Classic Revisited
Prada’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection marks the return of a signature handbag straight from the brand’s archives.
By Natasha Bonello
C o–creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons debuted their first in-person runway presentation—Seductive, Stripped Down—
over two simultaneous showcases in Milan and Shanghai. With couture silks, hip-hugging miniskirts, scarlet lace details, and leather-clad classics, Prada’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection pared down the grand sensuality of evening wear to a simpler, more erotic wardrobe suitable for the everyday.
Fluid silhouettes and a decidedly bright colour palette were contrasted with boning and lace to elevate classic Prada signatures and emphasize the female figure. Oversized outerwear and aged biker jackets were layered over dresses to create a compelling juxtaposition. With this collection, Prada and Simons refined their infatuation with seduction to a more stripped-down aesthetic.
Along with the updated brand staples, the collection debuted a re-edition of Prada’s 1995 medium leather handbag in a brilliant scarlet. The reimagined handbag, which made its first appearance during Prada’s Fall/Winter 1995 collection, boasts a streamlined and elegant shape with raw edges that reflect the timeless aesthetics of its original era.
Constructed with the finest brushed leather, the Re-Edition 1995 bag pays homage to its predecessor with a contemporary twist. Adorned
with a “Prada Re-Edition 1995” screen-printed logo, this wardrobe favourite complements the idiosyncratic allure of a sophisticated wearer. The dichotomy of raw-edged finishes and sleek lines, in tandem with
the elegant feminine touches highlighted throughout Re-Edition 1995’s runway outing, allows Prada’s refined grandeur to command centre stage.
