The Sky is The Limit
The gorgeous X Convertible concept shows Genesis has lofty ambitions
BEFORE YOU TURN AWAY THINKING THIS STUNNING SCULPTURE IS
merely a concept car, you should know that it isn’t. The chief creative officer of Genesis — famed automotive designer Luc Donckerwolke — reportedly told the brand’s dealers this Genesis X Convertible concept will become a real car, one you’ll actually be able to put it in your garage.
At the concept’s unveiling in Los Angeles, Donckerwolke acknowledged that Genesis began as a luxury brand “mainly targeting business users.” But the brand has grand aspirations. Donckerwolke doesn’t only want to create cars that appeal to your head (and your wallet). He’s after your heart now too.
“Electric powertrains have given us the perfect scenario in which to enjoy nature, and propelled the brand to create vehicles with even greater emotional resonance,” he said.
The X Convertible doesn’t just demonstrate these lofty ambitions, it shows Genesis has the ability to deliver on them. The concept is reminiscent of optimistic mid-century automobiles, but it’s not backward looking, quite the opposite. It’s futuristic yet elegant, a rare feat. Sadly, Donckerwolke didn’t let slip when this all-electric Genesis convertible might arrive, but that’s fine. We’ll wait.
