 Wide Horizons
Gorden Wagener, chief design officer at Mercedes-Benz, on linking cars with art and fashion
“I see Mercedes not as a car company but as an international design and luxury company. I want to elevate Mercedes out of the automotive world, and therefore I think it’s important to do these kind of collabora- tions. They’re also inspirational, as we did with Virgil [Abloh]; that was very different and sometimes even shocking. For me, luxury is about two things: beauty and the extraordinary. Extraordinary means it does not appeal to everybody, so you must not please everybody.”

Walk, don’t drive
Vancouver-based footwear startup Casca teamed up with Volvo to create a limited-edition pair of sus- tainable sneakers with Scandinavian-inspired style to celebrate World Car-Free Day — because, yes, sometimes it’s better to just walk.

Legendary designers Jony Ive and Marc Newson are working on something big with Ferrari
Dream-team designers Jony Ive and his pal Marc Newson, who together run the secretive creative collective LoveForm, have announced a partnership with Ferrari. All Newson has said is that the pair are looking forward to collaborating with the Ferrari design team under Flavio Manzoni. We’ve got no idea what these three luminaries are working on — an electric SUV, an e-scooter? Whatever it is, have no doubt it will push the envelope.
