A S A REALTOR WITH TORONTO’S HEAPS ESTRIN, MICHAEL
McLachlan makes a living by finding buyers for some of the most spectacular homes in Canada. His real job, however, is building relationships. Whether creating social media content about the real estate market or giving potential buyers a tour of a new listing, McLachlan’s people-first approach has made him a top agent in one of the world’s hottest real estate markets. We caught up with McLachlan to talk to him about his work, his personal style, and the pleasures of owning a beautiful watch.
What do you love about your job?
That it’s not just a career, it’s a lifestyle. Being fully immersed in Toronto's luxury scene, I get to experience first-hand the incredible energy this city has to offer. There's something exhilarating about having the keys to some of the most stunning properties around and knowing that I’m helping clients step into their dream spaces. But it’s not just about the properties — it’s also the people. I get to build genuine relationships, connect with some amazing individuals, and share in their excitement as they find a place to call home. That combination of luxury, connection, and the thrill of the deal is what keeps me passionate about what I do.
What makes Toronto such a unique place to work in real estate?
Toronto is a city like no other. It’s this incredible mix of cultures, architecture, and a vibe that’s always evolving. The city is constantly pushing boundaries, whether it’s the design of new luxury developments or the way neighbourhoods are being reimagined. There’s an energy here that you won’t find anywhere else, and that keeps the market dynamic and full of opportunity.
Why is content creation an important aspect of your work?
Content creation is a game-changer in my work. It’s not just about putting prop- erties out there; it’s about crafting a narrative that makes a lasting impression, even before I’ve met potential clients. With so many realtors in the city, it’s crucial to stand out, and content creation gives me that edge. I love that it allows me to express myself creatively and showcase my clients' properties in a way that captures their true essence.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is smart, elevated casual — whether I’m at work or out enjoying the city. I’m into well-put-together pieces that don’t rely on big brand names to make a statement. It’s more about the quality, the feel of the fabric, and how comfortable I am in what I’m wearing. I want to look good but also feel good in everything I wear. For me, it’s about balance — blending sharpness with ease.
What do you love about watch collecting?
It goes far beyond just owning timepieces — it’s about the stories and emotions each watch holds. Every piece in my collection has sentimental value, reminding me of significant moments in my life. But it’s also about the craftsmanship, the incredible attention to detail, and the precision of the fine movements that really draw me in. There’s something special about appreciating the art and engineering that go into creating these small mechanical wonders. And of course, a great watch is the perfect way to accessorize, adding that final, refined touch to any outfit. It’s more than just a style statement; it’s a reflection of taste, history, and the things that truly matter to me.
What do you like most about King Seiko?
It’s the kind of watch that stands out without trying too hard. I love the new King Seiko SJE115, which is a limited-edition based on a King Seiko model from 1969. The tonneau-shaped case and the slim Calibre 6L35 movement make it super comfortable to wear, but the real showstopper is the dial. That light greenish-blue with a textured dragon pattern isn’t just cool to look at; it’s a nod to the 2024 Year of the Dragon in the Japanese zodiac. It’s got history, cultural significance, and top-notch craftsmanship, all wrapped up in a design that feels fresh and unique.
