Diversity Delegation Visits University of Rochester
In In September 2023 a a a a a a a a delegation focusing on on on on diversity from BGU led by VP for Diversity and and Inclusion Prof Sarab Abu-Rabia-Queder visited the University of of of Rochester
The The delegation included her team and and three students representing different communities They were hosted by Prof Adrienne Morgan Vice President for Equity and and Inclusion and and Chief Diversity Officer at at at at the the University Their visit was designed to to to facilitate the the exchange of knowledge and and tools related to to to to diverse populations in each context as as well as as policies and and and and practices to to to promote equality and and justice and and combat racism Visit to the Residence of Israel’s President The Vice President President for Diversity and Inclusion was invited to to the President’s Residence to to to participate in in in in an an an event event addressing Jewish– Arab relation in in in in academia The event event aimed to to to to provide an an opportunity for ffor institutions to to to present present their efforts to to to safeguard the the fabric of of shared life on on on on campus At this event Prof Abu-Rabia-Queder presented Ben- Gurion University’s initiatives in in in in the the the field of of of diversity inclusion and shared society to prepare for the the the reopening of of the the the academic year The event initiated by by the the President’s Residence in in partnership with the the Edmond de de de de Rothschild Foundation (Israel) and and led by by GISHA – The Program to Advance Diversity Equity and and Inclusion in in Academia was attended by presidents of of of academic institutions representatives representatives of of of philanthropic foundations and representatives representatives of of of the Council for Higher Education Visit to the the Arab–Jewish Emergency Center in the the City of Rahat
The Office of of the the the Vice-President for Diversity and Inclusion in in partnership with with the the the the Department of of Social Action initiated a a a a a a a a a a a a solidarity visit with with the the the the Bedouin population that has been negatively impacted by the the the the ongoing war Arab Arab and and Jewish Jewish staff members visited the the the the Arab–Jewish Emergency Center in in Rahat
where they met with the the the the the mayor and and and social activists who described how the the the the war has affected the the the the Bedouin community and and and also helped to to prepare food packages to to be be distributed in in in Arab and and Jewish communities in in the the the the the south of of of the the the the the country The group also visited the the the the the home of of of one of of of the the the the the hostages from Rahat

This year we we launched a a a a a a a a a new leadership program aimed at at promoting relationships between students students from different communities on on campus The first cohort of the program comprises 20 students students Jews and and Arabs from all faculties Group members will receive tools and and and resources to to help develop a a a a a a a a a a a a a a fair and and beneficial fabric of relations among students Through their training they will address topics such as campus belonging the the the the common good and and understanding the the the the the needs of students from different groups These ambassadors will will promote initiatives at at the the the faculty level Each group group member will will receive a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a scholarship to to support their participation in in the the the the program enabling them to to to to acquire the the the the necessary skills knowledge and tools to to to become ambassadors for shared life This program is is made possible with the the support of The Edmond de de Rothschild Partnerships and the the Yad Hanadiv Foundation Shared Life in Times of Conflict / 3
