INTRODUCTION
Welcome to our Female 2020 Sale. The Waitawheta Herd was originally
formed in 1988 with the purchase of 6 cows from the Matauri Dispersal Sale, other cows were added from various dispersals with Inniscreag and Te Ohu having particular influence.
AI and ET have been used to develop the herd, Hingaia 469 having a great influence on the herd through cows Waitawheta 134, Waitawheta 304, and Waitawheta 405. Many of the catalogued Pure New Zealand cows will go back to these foundation cows.
Since we developed an interest in Pure New Zealand pedigrees, their numbers have grown to approximately 60% . They have proven them- selves to be productive and when tested by nature, droughts and inclem- ent winters have the ability to hold on and bounce back. They also have good carcass characteristics which is born out by our Steak of Origin results over the years. Pure New Zealand Genetics also cross well with imported AI Sires and show Heretosis affects.
Other cows are by AI Sires or sons of AI Sires. We have also purchased Sires in recent times from Kakahu, Kowai Angus and Martin Farming.
