GCSE Physical Education
If you choose GCSE PE, it will build upon your genuine interest in the subject,
your previous knowledge, understanding and also your practical ability. Your
curriculum will focus on performing effectively in practical activities, analysing
and evaluating performance, and acquiring and developing knowledge and
understanding of factors that affect performance and participation in a healthy,
active lifestyle. Why would you not want to choose it?
Course Outline:
This course consists of
2 main components as
listed below:
1. Theory component
(60% of the course).
The theory content and
written examination
include:
• Paper One (1 hour 15
minutes): The human
body and movement
in physical activity and
sport; Health, fitness
and a healthy active
lifestyle
• Paper Two (1 hour 15
minutes): Socio-cultural
and psychological
influences in physical
activity and sport
2. Non-Exam Assessment
(40% of the course)
There are TWO aspects:
a. Practical performance
assessment in THREE
different sports/
activities. (You must be
competitively playing in
all THREE).
For these three
activities: one must
be a team sport, one
must be an individual
sport, and the third
either another team or
individual. You will be
assessed on TWO parts.
Part 1 – Individual skills
(10 marks)
Part 2 – Full context in a
game situation
(15 marks)
b. Performance analysis
written assignment
Part 1 – Analysis
of strengths and
weaknesses (15 marks)
Part 2 – Evaluation
and how to improve
performance (10 marks)
