We use the Abacus Scheme of Work. Abacus is a unique mathematics curriculum delivery toolkit that is carefully crafted to help inspire a genuine love of mathematics and help every child master mathematical concepts in their own way. It is underpinned by research into successful teaching in the UK by a team of expert authors and teaching practitioners to help teachers ensure the essential mastery of age appropriate skills for all.
Our Multi-Sensory Teaching ensures that all pupils:
• Develop fluency in the fundamentals of mathematics
• Develop the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately through individual strategies
• Develop conceptual understanding through a variety of practical activities and co- curricular opportunities
• Experience varied and frequent practice of essential skills
• Develop confidence in solving increasingly complex problems over time
• Appreciate the importance of breaking down problems into a
series of simpler steps and
persevering in seeking solutions
• Develop the ability to reason
mathematically by following a line of enquiry and conjecturing relationships and generalisations
• Develop the skills to formulate an argument to justify or prove, using mathematical language, why they have chosen to approach the problem in a particular way
• Develop problem solving skills by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication
