George Gibbens
What are you plans for
the future?
I’m heading to Durham University
to read Geography. I plan to take
a year abroad option during my
degree and hope to work for the
Red Cross, maybe in Iran or Iraq,
and then go back and complete
my fourth year. After that, I’d like
to do a Masters before going
into the Intelligence Services or
diplomatic work.
Lily Murdoch
Where do you see yourself in
ten years?
I will have completed my Masters
at Cambridge and I plan to gain
some experience in an industry
before doing a PHD. I’d like to
work in instrumental analysis and
look at socioeconomics, there
are lots of links between maths
and anthropology, two areas that
interest me.
I’d like to be Prime Minister one
day but I’d have to learn how to
deal with being disliked! I’d like to
bring more ethics and principles
back into politics.
What would be your top tip for
others hoping to follow your
path?
Ask questions all the time – if
you keep asking questions,
they become more and more
intelligent questions. Don’t rest
on your laurels and keep working
hard to achieve what you want to
achieve, and don’t forget to make
people smile.
I love Seaford because...
There are so many opportunities
to make a difference with the
charity work and it’s a community
that really cares.
Ella Mitchell
Which universities are you
looking at?
I want to study History at Oxford
but I’m also looking at Exeter,
Durham and St Andrews.
How has Seaford helped you
with the Oxbridge process?
Mr Gisby helps advise students
with the Oxbridge process. He’s
always been super helpful; he’s
given me the right resources and
guided me through the process.
I’m doing the History Admissions
Test. We’re having weekly
meetings and checkups to make
sure that I’m on track. He’s giving
me books to read to support
my personal statement. So, he’s
just really helping me flourish
and giving me the best shot at
Oxford, basically. I like being with
the Oxbridge group because
everyone is in the same boat, we
are all helping and supporting
each other.
What are your aspirations for
the future?
I want to go to the city and work
in Law. I’m really interested in
ethics and philosophy, and I think
Law is a good fit for me. Seaford
took some of us to a ‘Women of
the Future’ event in Year 12 and I
met lots of people working in Law
– that was really inspiring.
I also want to keep writing music
and performing.
I love Seaford because...
It’s got a good atmosphere and
a kind and warm community.
It’s given me the confidence to
strive to be my best in academics,
music and sport. It’s helped me
with my drive and ambition and
has supported me with getting
where I want to be.
