Beyond the
classroom
Ed Gordon-Thomson
What clubs and activities
do you do?
I have been at Seaford for 10 years
and I have loved it! Being involved
in every aspect of school life and
the leadership opportunities
have really developed me as a
person. I think the easier question
to answer is what club I haven’t
tried, there are so many things
to get involved in here. I board
and that gives me time to do a
lot. I’ve loved CCF, sport, being in
musicals and in the choirs. I love
sport and sailing; I also train in
the dojo with our Martial Artist
in Residence, Mr Staples. I really
enjoyed Astronomy Club and,
as a subject ambassador, I did a
session where I showed our Prep
School students how to make
glow sticks, that was really fun.
The outdoor education activities
are always good fun, and I did
DofE which was a challenge to
fit in but worth it. I also enjoyed
Debating Club.
How do you balance all of the
activities with studying?
I plan my time well and make use
of the private study periods and
the prep time in boarding, if you
focus you can get most of it done
in that time. I also use the Science
Workroom, it’s a good place
to talk about ideas with other
students and to get some quiet
time. I am usually running around
from one thing to the next so
remembering what I’m doing is
important, I don’t want to miss
choir practice or a performing arts
rehearsal.

How do you like to relax in your
spare time?
I’m studying for A Levels at
the moment, and I’m at rugby
training about four times a week,
and in the gym five times a week,
so I don’t have much spare time.
When I do get time, I just try to
rest, see friends, play golf or watch
a movie. I also like playing cricket
at Seaford in the summer.
