Once UCAS receives your application form, copies are made and sent to each of the institutions you have chosen on the form. At this stage, some of the contextual information on the UCAS form and all details of the other institutions you have applied to are removed. You will then begin to receive either:
• a conditional offer i.e. an offer stating the grades/tariff required in the upcoming examinations
• an invitation to an interview
• a rejection
You can monitor the progress of your applications via the UCAS website using UCAS Track.
Open Days and Interviews
As the number of applications for Higher Education places has increased tremendously over the last decade, Admissions Tutors are less able to give formal interviews. Some courses nearly always carry a formal interview such as Medicine, Drama, Teaching, etc.
Some university departments have a policy, stated in the prospectus, of offering no interviews. It is up to you to check. If you have made five applications and received invitations to spend a day at several of the institutions, you will need to be selective as to which you attend; five visits would be very disruptive to your academic work and often quite costly.
