Case Statement

Our Chapter

Over the past 62 years, we have been fortunate enough to be able to watch the chapter grow and develop into
one of the top sororities at Texas Tech. We can all be proud of the things we have accomplished together. To
many of us, the time spent as a Delta Delta Delta undergraduate represents some of the most formative years
of our lives and led to friendships that last a lifetime. The lodge at #13 Greek Circle is a testament to what
we have accomplished as a chapter. The chapter now stands strong with 245 sisters after initiating 80 new
members this past fall. They completed the 2014 fall semester number one in grades among sororities. The
current GPA is 3.33.

Phi Eta recently held the annual Delta After Dark philanthropy event benefitting St. Jude in October 2015.
The event was held in the lodge parking lot and raised over $13,000. Along with the Up ‘til Dawn event,
where our chapter alone raised $24,412, our semester fundraising total is approximately $37,412. Many other
events are already scheduled for 2016.

We are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to reflect on what Tri Delt means to us and what it will mean
to the women that follow in our footsteps. With that in mind, we look to the next logical step in our chapter’s
growth: The replacement of our current lodge at #13 Greek Circle with a state of the art facility. Delta Delta
Delta has grown and prospered and now is our opportunity to have our chapter lodge reflect such growth.

Our Need

The most important factor leading to this decision was the physical need for a new lodge. The overall size,
including the second floor, can no longer adequately support the current undergraduate chapter membership.
Because of that, the weekly chapter meeting moved to an on-campus location to accommodate the numbers.
The lodge is used on a daily basis for new member meetings, chapter meetings, study halls, officer’s training
and council meetings, monthly Delta’s Own events, catered chapter dinners, Bible study and Panhellenic
meetings. In order to continue forward with these events, larger accommodations are needed. Additionally,
the roof leaks and there is inadequate plumbing and electrical problems that affect the current state of the
lodge. The chapter also needs more parking at the lodge. The plans for the new lodge include Library/Den, a
Kitchen, various offices and study rooms, storage and a beautiful new chapter room.

The Greek community at the Texas Tech is in an ongoing period of expansion, both in number of members
and chapters. As a result, there will be an extension of the Greek Circle, which will give Greek organizations
the opportunity to build new lodges to increase their on-campus presence and reputation. It is important
to note where we have come as a chapter and where it is that we intend to go. If we are to continue to
grow and prosper, we need a chapter lodge that reflects our rich history yet provides a competitive lodge
for today’s undergraduates. This will enable us to continue our strong recruiting efforts, providing first-rate
accommodations, and building a new home on campus.
