Our next workshop is entitled Dendritic Patterns, from Wrist to Leaf to River to the Cartography of a Storm. Content warnings for this section include group activity, being asked to say things, and gentle touch on the lower arm with a watercolour brush.
A dendritic pattern is the pattern of a waterway that can be seen from planetary to micrcoscopic scale,
from the epic reaches of a rainforest to the forests of nerves beneath our skin surface. We are thinking of architectures big and small that exist to support billions of intricate processes.
For our workshop, we propose we all focus together on our interconnected bodies of molecule and mass, to experience how the structure of one’s world cannot be separated, from the structure of one’s self.
We ask, “Could ones very body exist far past the boundaries of the skin?”
And so, a fieldtrip. Please take these observational tools.
You may note, that each of these pieces of paper has a subject for analysis – a wrist, a leaf, a river, the cartography of a storm.
In this fieldtrip we’ll find each of these bodily processes and draw them on the related paper. Your drawing can be in any style, a map, an abstract pattern, a gestural response, a simple scribble, a word, a diagram.
Do please keep in mind that these processes could occur where you least expect them to, and such unpredictable interconnections between bodies of different orders
is exactly the form of scientific analysis that we aim to explore in this workshop.
We have just three minutes to achieve our mission. Our time starts now.
