only have taken two lives, but destroyed two others? Again, I had to focus.
Still holding the unloaded revolver in my hand, I asserted my supposed power and reaffirmed complete control of the situation. “Chain yourself up and do NOT try anything funny,” I shouted. I must admit there was something about holding a gun – a feeling that rushed through my body with a blend of fear, apprehension and curiosity. It made me regret not having loaded the bullets. I’d love to shoot just her toes off one by one right now. No fear, my ass! She’d show fear then! Perhaps on my next run into town for supplies...
It was at that point, I first heard the echoed voice. Glancing quickly up at Rachel, I could see she was too engrossed staring into empty space and hadn’t spoken anything. My head instinctively turned quickly back and forth, perusing every corner of the room.
The voice inflections were familiar, but still unclear. I stood still and honed in on the sound, though I knew not its origin. “No guns,” the voice repeated. “We said, no guns.” My body froze where I was standing, but I wasn’t afraid for I sensed an immediate acquaintance in the voice. In retrospect, it took me much longer to recognize her voice than it should have. It was Karina. But how? Where? Why? She was in the room. I could feel it.
I had to remain calm so as not to relinquish control. None of my reactions could be perceived as a weakness by my hostage. I tried to mentally connect with the voice I’d heard to telepathically send the message to my love: “But there are no bullets, Karina.” Suddenly, a light began to materialize before me, a vision.
