P. 6
A NOTE FROM OUR CEO
Dear friends,
Without a doubt, 2023 was a signi cant year in our organization’s history. As we take time to re ect on our humble beginnings, we recognize how God has grown our ministry to directly impact the lives of more than 24,000 Dallas neighbors in over 191 zip codes.
When Brother Bill’s Helping Hand began distributing food and other essentials to neighbors in West Dallas, the physical ministry was the size of a closet. Nevertheless, it made a massive impact on the surrounding, unincorporated community. A community where residents lived and worked under the shadow of industrial factories, with no running water and streets that were not paved — life was bleak, and hope was scarce.
However, with the support of business and community partners, local congregations, volunteers, and donors, Brother Bill’s, while maintaining the same heart and soul, has become so much more than that small closet. BBHH has become a vehicle that lifts neighbors out of generational poverty by providing life essentials like food and health care, educational opportunities like our After School Program and Pathways job training, and the hope and encouragement that is found through Jesus Christ.
Today, Brother Bill’s Helping Hand is making a signi cant difference in the lives of our neighbors. For example, in 2023, we:
• Started the Learning Garden at the West Dallas STEM School.
• Served over 1,100 households at our South Dallas Community Market.
• Expanded our partnership with UT Southwestern, which has helped us connect with a new healthcare
provider and build a more robust referral system for patients needing specialty care.
• Launched our Food Rx Program in partnership with Texas A&M University and began delivering a fresh,
customized selection of produce to 100 neighbors who are managing chronic hypertension.
• Served 24 students in our after-school program (we are expanding this program to accommodate 30
students in 2024).
October of last year of cially marked 80 years of service in West Dallas and the surrounding communities. We were honored to receive special proclamations recognizing this milestone from both Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia and City Councilman for District 6, Omar Narvaez.
We accomplished so much in 2023 and have so much to look forward to as we celebrate 80 years of ministry. We know that we are being called to lay the groundwork for expanding our West Dallas campus to accommodate this growth. I hope you will take time to read this report and celebrate with us the good things God is doing in West Dallas, Oak Cliff, South Dallas, and Pleasant Grove.
As always, we are grateful for your support as we work together to make a profound impact on the families we serve. Here’s to 80 years!
Grace and Peace,
Wes Keyes
