 KAYO
STUDIO V
300,000 SQUARE FEET
JAN. 2020 - APRIL 2020
DESIGN BRIEF:
The goal was to design a ‘boutique’ hotel in a randomly selected location. The hotel was to reflect the needs
and wants of the surrounding area along with the local vernacular. Tuloy Kayo is located in Manila Philippines, Manila is usually a layover point for flights, therefor this hotel was purposed to be a retreat for travelers between destinations.
THE CONCEPT:
The design for Tuloy Kayo is inspired and influenced by the Nilad plant. The Nilad is native to the Philippines. It is said to grow along the coast and sway in the breeze ‘welcoming’ visitors along the riverbanks and seashore. Tuloy Kayo is a retreat hotel where visitors traveling near
or far are welcomed in to rejuvenate. As soon as visitors enter the hotel they can feel welcomed through the openness
of the space. Just passed the check in deck, doors remain open connecting the indoors to the outdoors and fresh, ocean air fills the space. While in the space visitors are encouraged to relax and rejuvenate.
