  Family Feud?
Pamela Polani, Esq.
What does it say about me that I absolutely love watching “Family Feud”?
I do not often get to watch television, but when I do, I cannot resist watching this game show!
Something about family members working together, demonstrating camaraderie, all pulling for a common goal really makes me smile and feel good.
The answers provided are often hilarious, too.
Yet, no matter how off the mark the response may be, the team cheers on each member, giving high-fives and lots of hugs.
The physical displays of affection definitely also contributes greatly into why Ilike viewing this program.
Another part of this program that I really like is how all ages of a family can join and enjoy it together.
Most of the questions are a bit silly but some have actually provided a platform for further discussion in my own household. Questions, such as: What is the first thing you would take from a burning house? Name something you did not learn in school. Whatarethingsyoushouldnotdoin public? Name something of which a parent may disapprove.
The appeal of this show seems to be how well it reflects real experiences. In the game of life, most problems can be solved with time, money and hugs. The situations that cannot are when we truly need to stand together even more so.
However, as a probate and trust litigator, I often see people at their worst during the most tragic of times. Families often seem to lose their ability to communicate with one another in a loving, supportive way when certain members die. Issues that never came to light when their loved ones were alive become epic legal battles once those individuals die.
For instance, siblings will fight siblings over material possessions, such as furniture, knick-knacks and memorabilia. Often the arguments are based from misplaced grief and anger over the loss of their loved one, not a desire for more money or items. It becomes easier to fight over a family heirloom than cope with a loved one’s loss.
In fact, another one of my favorite parts of Family Feud is when a team wins the grand prize. They all huddle together, in a group hug, jumping up and down with joy.
How much better would the journey of our lives be if we could all have a collection of people gather, with whom we could truly express our gratitude and happiness, in such an uplifting way?
Thank Goodness, for shows like Family Feud, to help ease the tension and stress real families face. Survey Says? Good Answer, Good Answer!!
Some people make things happen. Some watch things happen.
While others wonder what has happened.
