Homer\u2019s Steak House\u000AThe north edge of Milford saw Homer\u2019s Steak House, begun by Homer Walmer of Spencer in 1957, when he leased an empty building that at one time Rocky\u2019s Steak House\u000ARocky\u2019s was a satellite\u000Aof a similar business Des Moines, operated by Rocky Campiano his brother Tony started nearby Tony\u2019s Drive in, which brought pizza to the lakes in the 1950s\u000AHomer died in 1962, but his son Scott continued operating the establishment until 1966 With new owners, Jerry McShane was named manager McShane also managed the Black Coach Restaurant on Hwy 71 in Spirit Lake which held the honor of selling the state\u2019s first legal \u201Cliquor- by-the-drink\u201D in 1963\u2014a\u000AVern & Coila\u2019s\u000AVern & Coila\u2019s club on Pocahontas Point holds people\u2019s hearts to this day Vern and Coila Titterington\u2019s Arnolds Park hardware store failed, and the couple was living with Coila\u2019s father on the southwest side of Okoboji They set up a small grocery for cottage visitors, and a small dining room Business boomed, and in 1946, they built a large modern supper club\u000AAfter Vern died in 1948, Coila\u2019s family members ran the restaurant Open year-round, both the restaurant and the barroom were successful When Coila died in 1989, the property was sold the next year It is now the site of two large homes and a park honoring Vern and Coila\u000A \u201CEat your fill for a dollar bill\u201D at Murl\u2019s Log Villa, located on the old Highway 71 in Maywood Harry and Murl Mitchell of Milford opened the doors to the Log Villa in 1953 They also owned Murl\u2019s Caf\u00E9 at the intersection west of Spirit Lake\u000ATeeg\u2019s Steak House\u000AThe Log Villa\u2019s opening announced, \u201CChuck wagon chow will be featured every night with a fish fry each Friday evening \u201D An advertisement from 1953 promises the largest sandwiches in Iowa The business was sold to Orville Rickman in 1972\u000Abourbon and water That building was torn down a few years ago\u000AMurl\u2019s Log Villa\u000A Once known as the Pink Slipper Steak House, the building was constructed in 1959 by George and June Teege and housed a locally famous Tiki Lounge Tidbit: The Teeges earlier operated the Green Mill Tavern in Milford\u2019s Old town, which burned in 1957 Nothing remains today\u000A VACATIONOKOBOJI.COM 49\u000A
