Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr Michael More-Molyneux presenting Ascot Rehab with their award for International Trade.
Last year, ASCOT REHAB had the great honour of receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, after just five years in business. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength, spurred on by
such prestigious recognition to achieve even more in a field marked by rapid technological innovation as well as the need for bespoke professional care.
Ascot Rehabilitation Ltd began in 2012 with a small staff and the goal of becoming a centre of excellence in consultant-led rehabilitation and trans-disciplinary care, in particular for patients affected by neurological conditions. With a purpose-built inpatient rehabilitation hospital
in Surrey, as well as outpatient facilities at both Harley Street and Wimpole Street in London, it was soon helping patients recover from everything from strokes to traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, and to learn to cope with conditions like multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
At first, Ascot Rehab had no particular focus
on attracting patients from overseas, but it soon gained an international reputation for excellence and found that patients will travel thousands of miles for the best available service. Increasing numbers of patients travelled from the Middle East and elsewhere, such that international business became a key component of the company’s strategy. Overseas patients were impressed not
by only by the exceptional standard of medical care, but by the excellent service delivery and the professionalism of Ascot Rehab’s hard-working team. And, happily, the company’s success in
the unlikely field of international trade did not
go unnoticed closer to home, but resulted in the Queen’s Award.
Nevertheless, Ascot Rehab has naturally
remained focused above all on excellent care for all patients, whether domestic or international. And the company’s efforts have been recognised by LaingBuisson, the leading health and social care market intelligence provider, which last November awarded Ascot Rehab its prestigious clinical care award for the category of rehabilitation.
This was quickly followed in January 2018, when Ascot Rehab was awarded international accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), which establishes worldwide consumer-focused standards to help organisations guarantee the quality of their services. This involved a rigorous peer review process, with a team of experts spending several days speaking to patients and

staff and assessing the facilities and processes. The result was a three-year accreditation, the highest level possible, and a resounding vote of
confidence in the ability and dedication of Ascot Rehab’s hard working team. From its rehabilitation physicians, neurologists and spinal neurosurgeons to the dynamic therapy team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and psychologists, everyone at Ascot Rehab can feel proud of the achievements of the past year.
As CEO and consultant neurologist Dr Ali Al- Memar said last year of the Queen’s Award itself, “We are privileged to receive this prestigious award. It is an acknowledgment of the commitment, dedication, and vision of our team in providing the centre of excellence in rehabilitation healthcare”. And Ascot Rehab has since built on its reputation for enterprise in international trade by representing the UK healthcare sector at the Arab Health exhibition in Dubai earlier this year.
The Queen’s Award has undoubtedly helped this British company gain the international recognition it deserves, opening up new opportunities
for expansion and investment. The further
awards subsequently won by Ascot Rehab have consolidated its reputation for clinical excellence as well as enterprise, but the Queen’s Award will always have a special place as an achievement that took the company to a new level, pointing to an even brighter future.
