Chapter 1 – Fundamentals of Medical/Aesthetic Lasers and IPLs v1.1
 This means....
Use BLUE light for superficial (epidermal) targets
Use GREEN light for slightly deeper targets (upper papillary dermis)
Use YELLOW light for target in the papillary dermis
Use RED light for deeper targets, into the reticular dermis
Of course, the targets must also have an absorption preference for those wavelengths!!
● Light from the near IR (infra-red) will also penetrate deeply into the skin. In particular, the light from the Nd:YAG laser (with a wavelength of 1064 nm) can also reach the fatty tissue layer.
● However, light from the far IR, e.g. the CO2 laser, is strongly absorbed by water and hence cannot penetrate very far into the skin since most of the energy is absorbed in the very superficial layers.
Figure 48: The penetration depth of light depends on the wavelength of the light.
