Chapter 2 – Fundamentals of Laser Tattoo Removal v1.0
In a nutshell
Ok, so how does laser tattoo removal work, in a nutshell? Here are the basics:
 1. A very short pulse of laser light is fired at tattoo ink (nano or pico seconds)
2. Some (not very much) of that light energy is absorbed by the ink
3. The amount of absorbed energy depends on a number of factors, but especially
the ink colour(s)
4. As a result of this absorption, the ink surfaces become very hot
5. This induces a reaction which essentially generates an ‘explosion’
6. The ink aggregates fly apart, tearing through the skin causing trauma (with some
ink particles leaving the skin altogether!)
7. The skin begins to repair itself
8. Some of the shattered ink particles are removed by macrophages into the lymph 9. These end up in the lymph nodes, where they remain until death
10. Other particles remain in the skin and are re-absorbed by fibroblasts/macrophages
That’s it!!
Sounds easy, doesn’t it? But, it’s not...
