Chapter 3 – Fundamentals of Laser/IPL Hair Removal 2nd Edition
Laser/IPL Hair Removal – what’s it all about?
What are we trying to do with this procedure? Well, in its simplest terms, we are trying to kill hair follicles using light. The process involves the melanin in the hair shaft absorbing some of the light energy, converting it into heat energy, which then ‘cooks’ the germ/stem cells in the bulge and the bulb, and on the follicle walls. If these cells are cooked sufficiently well, they will die.
It’s that simple!! Except, it’s not simple at all. As many laser/IPL operators will tell you, it’s actually quite tricky getting good results. Why? Well, it’s usually because the operator doesn’t really understand what they’re doing with their technology.
This book should help you to understand the principles behind this treatment and how to choose the correct parameters (settings) on your device to achieve good results.
“Laser hair removal is not rocket science.... ....it’s laser science!”
