“Laser hair removal is not rocket science.... ....it’s laser science!”

“In hair removal, the light is guided down the follicle by the melanin.” “Lasers are ‘better’ for hair removal, compared with IPL.”
“Use shorter pulses for thin hairs, and longer pulses for thicker hairs.” “Long pulsed Nd:YAG lasers remove hair in a different way to IPLs or diode lasers.”
“Start treatments with a low fluence and increase it with each session.” “SHR is a better technology...”
By the end of this Chapter you will know why, in each of the above...
True
Fiction Fiction Fiction Fiction
Fiction Fiction!
In a single sentence, the most important parameter, by far, is fluence! Assuming you have a decent wavelength (anything between 600 and 1200nm) and a reasonable pulsewidth (between 5 and 50ms) then it is the fluence which will dictate whether or not you will achieve a good clinical result.
Fluence is KING!!!
If you learn nothing else from this chapter, that is fine! At least you should obtain decent results. But don’t forget the skin cooling too....
