      Possessive Pronouns
A possessive pronoun shows ownership or possession. It takes the place of a possessive noun.
      Possessive pronouns used before nouns:
my your his her its
Possessive pronouns used alone:
mine yours his hers ours
our
their
theirs

BE CAREFUL NOT TO CONFUSE POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS, SUCH AS ITS, YOUR, OR THEIR, WITH CONTRACTIONS SUCH AS IT’S, YOU’RE, OR THEY’RE.
Examples:
My friend is Pandora.
The box is mine.
Your father is a king.
The blame is yours.
His friend is Mercury.
The golden coins are his.
Her friend is Epimetheus.
The roses are hers.
            Language. Read the following sentences, then circle the possessive pronouns.
1. The little girl was sent from a far country to live with him and be his playfellow.
2. Pandora wished the box was hers so she could open it.
