We use commas to separate items in a series.
Examples:
The donkey, the dog, and the cat all walked on together.
The fishes climbed to the top then, one after another, they followed the leader,
each gliding head foremost down the rock.
When all was ready for the bonfire, Fin-fin rubbed two sticks briskly together.
We use commas to separate two or more adjectives that come before a noun. Example:
The thin, black cat went with the donkey and the dog
We use commas before a coordinating conjunction. Coordinating conjunctions
are the FANBOyS.
F= is for the coordinating conjunction for A= is for the coordinating conjunction and N= is for the coordinating conjunction nor B= is for the coordinating conjunction but O= is for the coordinating conjunction or y= is for the coordinating conjunction yet S= is for the coordinating conjunction so
Examples:
The water felt warm, for the strong wind had driven the fire down below, too. By and by the spark grew into a flame, and the bonfire burned brightly.
He liked music, so he thought he might join the band.
