We use a semicolon between independent clauses if they are not joined by: and,
but, for, nor, or, so, or yet.
Example:
Flying Fish had a goal; he wanted to turn on the fire.
We use a semicolon rather than a comma before a coordinating conjunction to
join independent clauses that contain commas.
Example:
My friends live in Las Vegas, Nevada; San Diego, California; and Denver, Colorado.
                  Colon ,
We use a colon before a list of items, especially after expressions such as the
following or as follows.
Example:
For the party we need the following: balloons, tablecloths, napkins, and foam plates.
We use a colon after the salutation of a business letter.
