5. Extension to History The Mayans
Around 900 B.C a group of people known as the Mayans occupied the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. They were a very advanced civilization.
The Mayans are known for their beautiful pyramids. They were great architects.
The Mayan religion had many nature gods, like the God of Sun, the God of Rain and the God of Maize (corn).
Some of their famous centers were: Palenque, Uxmal, Copán, Tikal, and Chichén Itzá.
They created their own calendar systems and writing. They even built observatories to watch the stars.
