Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky
PeTer ilyich Tchaikovsky is one of the most beloved Russian composers. His music is famous for its strong sense of emotion.
Born in the Kamsko-Votkinsk district of Russia, May 7th, 1840, Tchaikovsky was the second eldest of six children; and the son of a successful engineer who was lieutenant col- onel in the Department of Mines. He began taking piano lessons when he was five. When he was ten, his parents decided to send him to the Imperial School of Jurisprudence in Saint Petersburg.
On June 25, 1854 Tchaikovsky suffered his mother’s death due to cholera. Some say this event was the reason he started composing.
Tchaikovsky attended law school in St. Petersburg, Russia, and, while studying law and government, he took music lessons. Tchaikovsky graduated at the age of nine- teen.
